Foods With Benefits: Coconut and Coconut Oil

Did you know coconuts are seeds? They're the largest seed in the world! Here are some coconut facts for you all!

  • One coconut tree = hundreds of coconuts each season
  • Coconut water is full of electrolytes and potassium to help hydrate you - it's a better alternative to sports drinks!
  • Coconut oil is high in saturated fat (1Tbs = 13+ grams) but it's still a really great option for cooking because of how unrefined it is
  • Unrefined, virgin coconut oil has 0 trans fat (that stay in your body) and can easily be absorbed in your blood stream
  • Coconut oil's saturated fat is made up of MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) that can be used as energy instead of being stored like fat
  • It increases your metabolism
  • Offers immune support and keeps your heart healthy
  • The fat is 50% lauric acid-monolaurin which is an immune fighter
  • Does not need to be refrigerated
